Dr. Brigitta Lee teaches Chinese literature from the traditional period and classical Chinese language.
Her research focuses on ancient and medieval Chinese poetry and poetics, as well as on questions of cultural memory, imitation and the formation of traditions. For her doctoral dissertation she examined the ways in which the rhetoric of early medieval poetry functioned to commemorate the poetic past and conditioned how later readers understood the significance of the earlier literary tradition. She also has interests in the literature, especially novels, of the late imperial period.
